This set of procedures uses tissue from the abdomen for breast reconstruction.

Summary
Abdominal-based flap breast reconstruction options all make use of excess abdominal tissue to reconstruct a breast or breasts. DIEP flap is the most common type of natural tissue breast reconstruction. It uses tissue from the abdomen. Most patients have enough skin and fat in this region to reconstruct at least one breast, if not both.
Some patients find that they require more volume than their abdominal tissue has to offer. Those patients may be able to undergo procedures that use an abdominal flap in conjunction with a hip or thigh flap or a breast implant. Read about individual procedures to learn more about these options.
