BreastReconstruction.org (“BRO”) values your trust, and we understand the importance of protecting your privacy. We want to make sure that you understand how your information is collected and used by BRO as you use the BreastReconstruction.org website (hereinafter, the “Site).
This Privacy Policy applies to all information collected through your communications with BRO, whether electronic, written or oral. This includes all of your interactions with the Site, which may be collected through a mobile application, BRO website, in person, or otherwise. Information collection includes any other information about you that we may collect offline or online, including information that we receive from affiliates or third-parties by other means. By accessing our Site or providing your information to us, you accept and agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Types of personal information we may collect about you:
The type and amount of information we collect on you will depend on how you interact with BRO. BRO collects information that identifies you as an individual or information which is linked or linkable to you as an individual, which will collectively be referred to throughout this Privacy Policy as “Personal Information” including contact information and demographic information. In the course of these interactions, you may provide us with biographical and demographic and contact information (including, but not limited to, your name, address, email address, phone number, date of birth, gender, and ethnicity); financial or insurance information to complete a transaction; inferences drawn from other personal information listed above to create a profile reflecting your preferences, characteristics, behavior, attitudes, and abilities; and information collected from industry, customers, providers and patient groups and associations.
Financial Information. BRO’s operations are funded by donation, and we greatly appreciate online donations. If you made a donation online, you will be asked to submit contact information for verification purposes, and such information will be stored in a secure location. When you donate, we will collect your name, address, and/or e-mail address so that we can send you thank you for your contribution. We may also collect limited financial information to process your contributions. BRO uses a third-party payment service to process contributions made through the BRO Site. However, financial information will not be stored except when it is needed for record-keeping purposes.
How we collect personal information about you
BRO may automatically collect personal information about you as you interact with and use the Site. Please exercise caution when deciding whether to disclose your Personal Information in public forums and on social media. BRO does not control the acts of other visitors to its Site, so please be cautious when deciding to reveal personal information on a public area of any site or any social media platform. Please contact us if you believe a visitor to an BRO site is improperly collecting or using information about you or other users. When you interact with our Site we may collect your IP address; browsing history; search history; and information on interaction with our Website.
Employment or Volunteer Participation. If you seek employment with BRO or volunteer for BRO, we will collect information related to your role. For instance, we will collect employment history information if you submit a resume to BRO or if you are volunteering to be a community leader, we will collect information on your location.
Your Usage of the Site and Social Media Interfaces. If you elect to connect to engage with BRO using your social media account, certain Personal Information from your social media account may be shared with us, which may include Personal Information that is part of your profile or your friends’ profiles; in addition, if you use a “like” button or use other social media features while visiting our website, those social media companies may collect information about you. Your interactions with social media companies and the use of their features are governed by their privacy policies.
Forms. If you decide to complete an informational or volunteer form, we will collect information from you in paper or electronic form. Personal Information may include your contact information, your cancer/reconstruction story, etc.
Other information collected.
BRO may also collect information that does not reveal your specific identity or does not directly relate to an identifiable individual, referred to throughout this Privacy Policy as “Other Information,” including browser and device information, usage data, Internet Protocol address, information collected through cookies, pixel tags and other technologies. Other Information also includes information that has been anonymized or aggregated in a manner that it no longer reveals your specific identity.
If we are required to treat Other Information as Personal Information under applicable law, then we may use and share it for the purposes for which we use and share Personal Information as detailed in this Privacy Policy.
How we may use your personal information
BRO may use the information we collect from and about you for a number of purposes.
Some examples of the ways we may use that information include:

BRO will not sell the personal information you provide or we collect through our webSite, although we may share your information as follows:
- Legal Matters: We may access and disclose your information to respond to subpoenas, regulatory or judicial processes, or government requests and investigations, or in connection with an investigation on matters related to public safety, as permitted by law, or otherwise as required by law.
- Prevent Fraud or Misuse: We may disclose your information to protect the security of our Websites, servers, network systems, and databases. We also may disclose your information as necessary if we believe that there has been a violation of our Terms and Conditions, any other legal document or contract related to our Websites, or the rights of any third party.

- Story Collection. We may, from time to time, invite you to share your journey and story with us to help others who might be going through a similar situation.

We may need to share Personal Information with third parties that provide operational support for our Site on our behalf (such as website hosting, information technology and infrastructure, data analytics, email delivery, or other services of an administrative or technical nature). Your information is shared solely for the purpose of providing such services and is subject to confidentiality obligations.
- If You Sign Up for our newsletter or as a volunteer. We may reach out to you via email, although you will have the right to unsubscribe.
- Social Media. Please note that any information you post within a public forum, such as a social media account, t may become public and may be read, collected, and used by anyone.
- Other Uses or Disclosures of Personal Information. We may also use and disclose your Personal Information as we believe to be necessary or appropriate: (a) to comply with applicable law, which may include laws outside your country of residence, to respond to requests from public and government authorities, which may include authorities outside your country of residence, to cooperate with law enforcement, or for other legal reasons; (b) to enforce our Terms of Use; (c) to protect our rights, privacy, safety or property, and/or that of our affiliates, you or others. In addition, BRO may use, disclose or transfer your information to a third-party in the event of any reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer or other disposition of all or any portion of our organization (including in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceedings).
Your Consent. In addition to the other disclosures described in this section, we may also disclose your information as you expressly authorize us to do so.
Email Communications: Please note that individualized information transmitted via email correspondence between you and BRO is not encrypted. As a result, like most, if not all, non-encrypted Internet email communications, such email correspondence may be accessed and viewed by other Internet users without your knowledge and permission while in transit. For that reason, to protect your privacy, if you have concerns about treatment, or questions that would involve the communication of confidential/personal health information, please call your physician, or other healthcare professional.
Other Information. BRO may collect and use, as describe herein, the following additional information “Other Information.”
Browser and Device Information. Certain information is collected by most browsers or automatically through your device, such as your Media Access Control (MAC) address, computer type (Windows or Mac), screen resolution, operating system name and version, device manufacturer and model, language, Internet browser type and version and the name and version of the Site you are using. We use this information to ensure that the Site functions properly.
BRO App Usage Data. When you download and use BRO Apps, we and our service providers may track and collect App usage data, such as the date and time your device accesses our servers and what information and files have been downloaded to the App based on your device number.
Internet Protocol Address. Your IP address is automatically assigned to your computer by your Internet Service Provider. An IP address may be identified and logged automatically in our server log files whenever a user accesses the Site, along with the time of the visit and the page(s) that were visited. Collecting IP addresses is standard practice and is done automatically by many websites and applications. We use IP addresses for purposes such as calculating usage levels, diagnosing server problems and administering the Site. We may also derive your approximate location from your IP address. We track page hits in the aggregate to track the popularity of pages that people visit. With that information we can improve the quality of the site.
We will also collect your IP address, along with basic contact information you provide on our website forms, such as the “Contact Us” form, “Volunteer sign-up” form and “Story Collection” form.
Web Server Traffic Pattern Information and Browsing History. We collect standard web server traffic pattern information and your browsing history. General traffic, Site usage, browser information and length of stay information is collected and stored in log files.
Cookies. Cookies are a collection of information sent by a website to a user’s computer, and then sent back each time the user accesses that website. Cookies help us understand how you navigate around the Websites. Most web browsers enable you to control whether or not you want to receive cookies or notify you when a website is about to deposit a cookie file. Targeted Outreach and Advertising. We may work with third-party service providers to target advertisements and outreach to you based on your preferences or other information, in some cases combining data we collect from you through online cookies and other technologies with other de-identified data (such as a hashed, non-readable email or postal address). Do Not Track
Because there is not yet a consensus on how companies should respond to web browser-based do-not track (“DNT”) mechanisms, our system will not recognize or respond to Do Not Track requests or headers at this time.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics features based on Display Advertising, which uses cookies and similar technologies to collect and analyze information about the use of the Site and report on activities and trends. (Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting). This service may also collect information regarding the use of other websites, apps, and online resources. You can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using the Ads Settings. In addition, you can use the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on to disable tracking by Google Analytics. We will use the data provided by Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting to develop the site and content around our users’ interests.
Anonymous or Aggregate Information. We use Anonymous Information and Aggregate Information for activities including data analysis and research. “Anonymous Information” means information where identifiers have been removed so that it does not directly or indirectly identify, and cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual. “Aggregate Information” means information about groups or categories of individuals which does not identify and cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual. For example, we may use Aggregate Information to compare the types of Site our constituents utilize in one geographic location with another to understand how the two groups are different or similar.
Uses and Disclosures of Other Information. We may use and disclose Other Information for any purpose, except where we are required to do otherwise under applicable law. In some instances, we may combine Other Information with Personal Information. If we do this, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information. We seek to use reasonable organizational, technical and administrative measures reasonably designed to secure the information to protect Personal Information within our organization. Unfortunately, no data transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. If you do not wish to be contacted via email, please contact us with an opt-out request, and we will honor the request in accordance with timelines set forth in applicable law. Please note that if you opt-out of receiving e-mails, we may still send you important administrative messages, from which you cannot opt-out.
Mobile Applications. You can stop the collection of information by any mobile applications easily by uninstalling the application. You may use the standard uninstall processes available as part of your mobile device or network. To discontinue the collection of geolocation data, you can modify your privacy settings on your mobile device.
Notices and Disclosures
Children’s Privacy. BRO does not knowingly request or collect information from any person under 13 years of age without parental consent. If you believe that your child has submitted Personal Information to BRO without your consent and you would like this info restricted or removed, please contact us using one of the methods provided in “How to Contact Us” below.
Links to Third-Party Websites. Our Site may contain links to third-party websites, whose privacy practices may be different from BRO’s. This Privacy Policy does not address, and we are not responsible for, the privacy, information or other practices of any third-parties, including any third-party operating any website or service to which the Site links. Links to other sites do not imply BRO’s endorsement of the products or Sites or privacy or security practices of those websites.
